چکیده

Life cycle analyses of novel food packaging materials do not often account for the environmental impact a change in shelf-life, which can result misleading comparisons. This paper established methodology comparative life analyses, whereby direct effects lidding films were compared whilst ensuring indirect wasted portion remained stable. Global warming potential and non-renewable energy use analysed conventional (low-density polyethylene/ethylene vinyl alcohol) versus biodegradable (polyhydroxyalkanoate/butenediol multilayer film modified atmosphere minced beef. Two methodologies investigated. The first (metric one) changed barrier layer thickness to match carbon dioxide transmission rate with that film. second two) predicted by mathematical model ensure same shelf-life as Using metric two over one resulted 1) thinner 2) 2.3 times lower global potential. When using sugar beet biopolymer feedstock current UK disposal system, had 135% higher than By incorporating waste products better farming practices, could be up 92% work demonstrates how incorporated into importance accounting it, particular when evaluating biodegradables have permeabilities.

LCA of biodegradable multilayer film from biopolymers

Multilayer films exhibit excellent properties for food packaging. However, existing products are not biodegradable. Conventional plastics, manufactured from fossil fuels, not only consume non-renewable and finite resources, but also impact heavily on waste disposal. A new multilayer film has been developed in the Multibio Project for the production of food packaging. In this paper, the environm...

Preparation and characterization of a bionanopolymer film for walnut packaging

To apply the nanomaterial as a component in the packaging material structure, in this research, the carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film were prepared with three levels of nanoclay particles (0.5, 1 and 3%) using solution casting evaporation method. The incorporation of nanoclay on mechanical, water vapor permeability, and oxygen barrier properties of CMC/PVA-based film wa...

Enhancement of MD-55-2 radiochromic film sensitivity using a multilayer film technique for applications in the low dose range

ABSTRACTBackgrounds: MD-55-2 is one of the Radiochromic film models with the sensitivity suitable for dose measurements ranging from 5 to 100 Gy.  However, this lower limit makes the film impractical for its applications in many areas such as brachytherapy source dosimetry.Materials and methods: In this project, the useful range of the film has been extended by using a multilayer film techniqu...

Combined Effect of chitosan-Based Edible Film Containing Oregano Essential Oil on the Shelf-Life Extension of Fresh Chicken Meat

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chitosan coatings, oregano essential oil, and their combination on microbial quality of chicken fillet during 12 days in refrigerator temperature. Methods: Oregano oil was extracted by water distillation and then different concentrations of oregano oil (1% and 2%) were used for film preparation. Microbiological tests were carri...
